Nicole Scherzinger may have to face Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin in court over the girl group’s scrapped reunion tour.
Us Weekly reported that the lawyer representing Robin (PCD‘s famed choreographer) wants to drop her from his client list. He claimed, “Irreconcilable differences have arisen between counsel and client. Counsel can no longer effectively represent” Antin and her companies.
A hearing has been set for September 10 on Antin’s lawyer’s motion.
The legal deets:
Robin’s lawyer’s withdrawal comes weeks after the parties informed the court they were “struggling to finalize the settlement paperwork.”
A hearing has been set for October, where the judge will set the trial date if no settlement was reached.
ICYMI, both parties needed additional time to hash out the paperwork. Antin’s lawyer explained, “The parties and their counsel and representatives are continuing their efforts to resolve this matter and have spent substantial time negotiating terms and various written agreements to resolve their dispute.”
“However, due to professional commitments of the parties and the multi-faceted structure and terms of the settlement, the parties require additional time to complete the settlement.”
Robin requested a hearing where all parties show up. Too bad Nicole was booked and busy staring on Broadway’s award winning musical Sunset Blvd, even winning a Tony for her role as Norma Desmond. Nicole’s team argued that ticket holders who pay as much as $400 to see her. “Many people and businesses that finance and work on the production” need Nicole at work.
Did Nicole “extort” Robin and PCD?
Court documents show Robin claimed Nicole agreed to a 49 percent cut of the profits. The founder said she spent a ton of time on the planned tour. Robin obtained a $600,000 advance from Live Nation for the tour. She said Live Nation demanded the money back after Nicole backed out.
The initial tour dates had to be rescheduled. In the suit, Antin claimed Scherzinger refused to perform on the new dates. She said the singer demanded the deal be modified to provide her with 75 percent of the profits and “complete creative control.”
Antin called Scherzinger’s actions “extortion.”
Nicole’s team clapped back:
A countersuit was filed against Robin, demanding $1.1 million.
“[Antin] breached her duties and obligations to [Scherzinger], severely damaged [Pussycat Dolls’] goodwill, and wasted the funding for the planned [Pussycat Dolls’] reunion tour, ruining [Pussycat Dolls’] ability to do business through self-dealing, waste, and fraud.”
Additionally, Nicole claimed Robin prematurely announced she agreed to do the shows. Nicole’s lawyer claimed “[Robin] made the misrepresentation to Live Nation to induce it to pay her a $600,000 advance, which she took. [But,] she has never shown [Nicole] what she did with those funds.”
According to the winner of the reality TV competition show, Popstars, Nicole said she spent over $100,000 of her own money on the project. She never received an advance for the project. Her counterclaim alleged she gave up other projects to work on the reunion tour, which caused her to lose out on $1 million.
