Former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Monica Garcia responded to a fan who inquired about TV ratings in the digital age.
The numbers:
“Do ratings matter?” asked a fan of the one-season-wonder.
“Are they an accurate reflection of the health and success of a season/franchise? Do you feel like there is an overall drop in viewership?”
Monica replied, “Everyone says that numbers absolutely do matter, but that streaming numbers are more important.”
The million dollar question:
Monica asked a rhetorical question, but one that I feel deserves a response. “Why don’t we see housewives streaming numbers? We see them for Secret Lives of Mormon Wives!” clocked Monica.
“Does anyone know where housewives streaming numbers can be found?”
I know I’m not the only person who feels bamboozled by Bravo TV and other networks claiming high viewership on current shows … the Vanderpump Rules reboot, for example … when our instincts/common sense tell us people aren’t watching.
I did some digging into the modern-day data collection methods for tracking viewership. Here are my findings …
There isn’t a single public database like there is for linear TV ratings — most of the detailed metrics come from measurement firms, industry reports, or occasional press releases, rather than open, free dashboards.
Here are the best places to look…
- Industry Management Firms
Nielsen / Luminate Data collects streaming content ratings and often publishes weekly top-ten lists and platform performance reports; some data is free, but detailed reports require access/payments through Nielsen’s Top Ten or Luminate services.
Parrot Analytics offers data on audience demand and viewing behavior for shows across platforms globally; requires account/subscription for detailed show-level data.
Samba TV provides real-time audience analytics and viewership dashboards (primarily for subscribers/marketing partners).
Luminate’s Streaming Viewership Tools has platforms to track minutes watched and viewership by title on a rolling basis (often subscription-based).
2. Press & Industry Reports
Trade outlets like TheWrap and Deadline occasionally publish live-plus-streaming viewership numbers provided by networks or measurement partners — e.g., recent Bravo streaming stats across platforms like Peacock.
TV Deets compiles ratings and multiplatform viewership trends when networks release them.
3. Aggregators & User-Focused Tools
JustWatch, Reelgood provide popularity rankings and watch data across multiple services, which can give a sense of relative streaming popularity (but not absolute viewer counts).
TV Time / TVLytics tracks how many users are following or “tracking” a show (not raw streaming minutes, but a proxy for popularity).
4. Network Releases
Bravo and its parent NBCUniversal sometimes release performance figures for streaming viewership for key shows or seasons through corporate press or annual highlights (e.g., showing which Bravo titles have high multiplatform totals).
To this point, we have to take the network’s word for it!
