There were “F-fl-flames on the side of my face” that filled with joy upon hearing the news that a competition series based on the board game and perfectly campy film, Clue, is coming to Netflix.
According to reports from Variety, the show’s goal is to find the contestant that outwits their opponents and identifies the “who, where, and with what” of a crime.
What to expect:
“The unscripted show will feature a group of contestants who undergo physical and mental challenges.” They are tasked with “collecting clues before they are launched into a real-life game of detective work and deception.”
“To win, the contestants must outwit their opponents and identify the suspect, location and murder weapon of the crime. If they guess right, they add money to the prize pot; if they guess wrong, they may be eliminated.”
“The competition series will, of course, include familiar suspects such as Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, and Professor Plum.”
To make a long story short (Too late!):
Clue is produced by Hasbro Entertainment. Jeff Gaspin, VP of unscripted series at Netflix, gave fans a taste of what’s to come.
“Like so many families and friends over the years, we’ve gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it. This makes ‘Clue’ a source of nostalgia that everyone shares.”
“Thanks to the incredible vision of our partners at Hasbro Entertainment, we’re delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition.” Their goal is to” invite today’s audiences into that iconic world.”
Author’s note …
As a lover of the board game and the movie (all three endings, iykyk) I don’t think credit for the concept is fully given where it’s due …
Agatha Christie.
Yes, Agatha Christie is literally MOTHER of the whodunit, but one of her books directly influenced the film and is given NO CREDIT.
If you haven’t read And Then There Were None, add it to your TBR.
The morose mansion was originally a secluded island, but the characters and their backstories are very similar to the movie characters, and why they are being blackmailed in the first place.
Even the ending of And Then There Were None was used as inspo for the movie’s groundbreaking ending(s).
