Despite penning a personal essay about her decision to exit her “toxic mommy” friend group, Ashley Tisdale is taking advantage of the viral moment.
The High School Musical actress announced a new comedy for Netflix.
“I guess we can all be a little toxic,” Ashley captioned her Instagram announcement on July 2.
Ashley is teaming up on the project with Sabrina Jalees and Ali Wong.
Per Deadline, Toxic Moms is a dark half-hour comedy following a sleep-deprived new mom who’s drawn into a clique of cool, wealthy mothers.
But when the group reveals its darker side, the series asks: in the isolation of motherhood, how far would you go to find community?
ICYMI: One of the first major celebrity news stories to drop this year centered around Ashley’s personal essay for The Cut, “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group.”
The Disney actress didn’t name names, but the internet quickly put the pieces together and concluded the friend group she felt alienated from included fellow actresses Hilary Duff and Mandy Moore.
Ashley’s team initially denied it was that particular group, but after Hilary’s husband, Matthew Koma, chimed in, the writing was on the wall.
And now, it’s about to stream on Netflix.
I guess we can’t blame her for making lemonade out of lemons — even if she was the one who squeezed them.
