Joseph Foreman, aka Afroman, was found not liable in a defamation lawsuit brought by seven Adams County sheriff’s deputies.
ICYMI:
The deputies sued the Because I Got High rapper for causing emotional distress, humiliating them, and invading their privacy for exercising his freedom of speech through music videos.
Collectively, the law enforcement officers sought nearly $4 million in damages from Afroman after they stole from him and damaged the rapper’s property.
Keep in mind, Afroman’s music videos would never have been created without the police officers’ abuse of power.
Afroman’s win is a win for the First Amendment.
ICYMI:
In 2022, police raided Afroman’s home, suspecting kidnapping and narcotics. No illegal activity was found, and no charges were filed.
However, the cops took $400 cash from the rapper and destroyed his gate and front door. Afroman dealt with the aftermath of the unruly officers by channeling his emotions into writing songs like Will You Help Me Repair My Door, The Police Raid, and Why You Disconnecting My Video Camera.
Subsequently, Afroman released the footage of the cops acting unlawfully in his home in the form of music videos.
The Adams County deputies said they were publicly harassed over the viral videos, which were viewed more than 3 million times on YouTube. The videos show rifle-wielding deputies busting down Afroman’s door, searching his shoes and suit pockets, and hungrily eyeing a cake on the kitchen table, inspiring one song’s title, Lemon Pound Cake.
Justice was served, like a delicious lemon pound cake!
Afroman was interviewed outside the Courthouse. “We did it, America! Yeah, we did it! Freedom of speech! Right on! Right on!”
Sporting a red, white, and blue American flag suit, Afroman broke down the situation … like the cops broke down his door.
“The whole raid was a mistake. All of this is their fault. If they hadn’t wrongly raided my house, there would be no lawsuit. I would not know their names. They wouldn’t be on my home surveillance system, and there would be no songs, nothing.”
