The Real Housewives of Potomac star Eddie Osefo hired powerhouse attorney Joseph Murtha to defend him against the felony insurance fraud allegations against him.
The Happy Eddie founder requested that all charges against him be dropped.
Us Weekly announced that Eddie, not including Wendy Osefo, retained the high-profile lawyer best known for having the infamous case involving former President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky under his belt (pun intended).
ICYMI, Wendy requested her trial be separate from any codefendants, including Eddie. She also asked for all charges to be dropped.
In case you’re not familiar with Joseph Murtha’s resume …
Murtha, a veteran trial attorney with experience in both state and federal courts, is best known for two high-profile cases.
1- He represented Linda Tripp after she was accused of breaking the law by recording private conversations with Monica Lewinsky without her knowledge.
All charges against Tripp were dropped in 2000. (Never forget the dangers of a kiki…)
2- In a separate case, Joseph Murtha represented a Baltimore police officer named William Porter. “Prosecutors charged Porter with manslaughter over the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray. Gray sustained fatal injuries while in police custody on charges of possession of a knife. He was taken to a trauma center and announced dead on April 19, 2015.”
Three officers were found not guilty. Two officers had charges dropped. Porter had his charges dropped after a mistrial.
Eddie wants the case dismissed:
Eddie’s lawyer asked that all counts against him be dismissed due to issues with the charging document. He also asked, as did Wendy, that all evidence collected be suppressed due to it being part of an unlawful search and seizure.
In his filing, Eddie also asked that he be tried separately from any codefendant in the case, aka Wendy. He said if he was not granted this request, it would “be clearly prejudicial to [his] right to due process.” His team argued it’s a “flagrant violation of [his] constitutional and other legal rights.”
The court requested that prosecutors turn over the names of all potential witnesses they plan to call to testify against him to Eddie’s legal team.
