Love on the Spectrum stars Abbey Romeo and David Isaacman called it quits after growing apart, according to Abbey’s mom, Christine Romeo.
In a YouTube video that Christine filmed with her cousin, Mary Romeo, she detailed why Abbey and David’s romance ended after five years.
The real story:
“There was no fight over engagements and rings being thrown around,” clarified Christine Romeo, debunking the speculation that Abbey was ready to get married and David wasn’t.
“You know, Abbey would say she wanted to get married, which really meant, ‘I want to feel like a normal person in the world and do what they do in their relationships.’”
“It was almost like having a party, not the idea of moving in together,” added Christine. She noted that they didn’t “talk about” that step.
Abbey and David realized they had different outlooks. “David was happy in his way of doing life. And Abbey’s was different,” she continued.
“And they found that out over this period of time.”
Abbey and David’s relationship was “successful,” said Christine. “I’m grateful for the time they had. It was a fabulous relationship. I think they will have a forever bond,” she continued.
For the record, Christine explicitly stated, “There was no fight.”
Abbey and David’s history:
The now-exes first met during Season 1 of Love On The Spectrum and quickly became the breakout couple of the franchise.
Their first date, at a wildlife park surrounded by their favorite animals, became an instant iconic moment from the series as the pair bonded over their shared love of lions, Disney movies, and earnest romance.
Abbey and David’s love blossomed both on and off screen. Viewers watched them navigate milestones, including trips together, meeting each other’s families, and learning how to deepen their emotional intimacy.
Over the years, Abbey and David became the emotional core of the show. They proved that the series’ mission to highlight authentic relationships on the autism spectrum could lead to lasting love.
Lasting longer than their love are Abbey’s songs about David – Boyfriend Forever and Categories.
