Update- Whitney Purvis On Suicide Watch After Being Arrested On Suspicion Of Involuntary Manslaughter

Whitney Purvis from 16 and Pregnant has been placed on suicide watch at the Georgia jail where she’s being held for involuntary manslaughter.

TMZ reported law enforcement’s findings. Their sources said Whitney was medically designated and committed within the jail system after making suicidal comments behind bars.

Also, Whitney is undergoing a detox as she withdraws from drug use.

16 and Pregnant alum, Whitney Purvis, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter after a man died as a result of using a narcotic he obtained from the MTV personality.

The crime:

PEOPLE reported Whitney allegedly “distributed a substance presented as ‘Tranq,’ commonly known as Xylazine and Fentanyl, to the victim.”

This “directly contributed” to the victim’s death due to a “toxic overdose.”

According to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Whitney was arrested and entered custody on 7/7/25.

Warrant: Felony warrant issued by Floyd County, GA – Involuntary Manslaughter (Fel)); No Bond.

Charge: MANUFACTURE/DELIVER/DISTRIBUTE/ADMINISTER/SELL/POSSESS W/INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (Cleared by Arrest); No Bond.

Charge: USE OF COMMUNICATION FACILITY IN COMMISSION OF A FELONY INVOLVING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (Cleared by Arrest); No Bond.

FYI- In criminal justice, “cleared by arrest” means a law enforcement agency has closed a case because they have arrested, charged, and turned over at least one person to the court for prosecution. It indicates that a crime has been solved for reporting purposes, even if the case is still proceeding through the legal system. 

The victim:

John M. Harris is the alleged victim. His obituary stated he “never met a stranger and had a way of caring for those who crossed his path.”

“Whether it was bandaging a wound, trips to the airport, or a place to lay their heads for a time, he was willing to lend a hand. He loved fiercely and would do anything he could for one of his friends.”

“John Mark gave the best hugs and had the most infectious smile most had ever seen. He loved entertaining and the goal of his gatherings was to spend quality time and strengthening the relationships with his friends.”
