The name on everybody’s lips is gonna be…WHITNEY.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star’s run as Roxie Hart is officially smashing box-office records.
For the week ending Sunday, March 15, Chicago the Musical scored its highest weekly ticket sales in the show’s 29 year history.
According to PEOPLE, it brought in a whopping $1,457,930.77 — beating the previous record set in December 2023.
Even more impressive, Whitney’s first six weeks onstage have grossed a total of $8,049,526.31.
That number feels even bigger when you consider the complete 180 the audience has taken re: both Whitney and Connor Leavitt on SLOMW.
However, despite the polarizing social media commentary, the love and energy inside the theater was undeniable.
I went to what was originally billed as Whitney’s final weekend as Roxie Hart and the vibe outside the Ambassador Theatre honestly surprised me.
My Review
Walking up to the venue and seeing the long line just to get inside felt different than any Broadway show I’ve been to before.
Everyone in line was talking about Whitney. Not just the performance, but the show that made her famous, the drama, the headlines, all of it.
One critique I kept seeing online before my trip was that Whitney didn’t have the strongest musical background.
But Chicago is known for stunt casting, so I wasn’t overly concerned about whether she would sound like the Roxies who came before her.
And honestly, while her biggest strength may not be powerhouse vocals, her stage presence, charisma, and energy absolutely carried the role.
Whitney completely captivated the audience, myself included.
She was funny, vibrant, confident, and fully committed to the razzle dazzle.
After the show, fans flocked to the stage door, and when I say flocked, I mean a full crowd packed outside waiting to see her.
The reaction she got was huge.
And this wasn’t just a one night thing.
I saw another show near the Ambassador Theatre that same weekend, and both the matinee and evening performances had just as many people waiting outside afterward.
If you haven’t seen Chicago, or you’ve been curious about Whitney as Roxie, now is definitely the time to go.
Especially because another familiar face is about to join the cast.
Mark Ballas, who was paired with Whitney on season 34 of DWTS, will play Billy Flynn for a limited four week run from April 6 through May 3, 2026.
Watching Whitney in this role, it felt obvious that this might be just the beginning of her crossover into mainstream entertainment!
