Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentinoย may have served his time in prison for tax evasion, but he still has substantial debt for two outstanding tax liens.
The US Sun reported that the MTVย star “still owes $2.3 million in unpaid taxes. [He] has been hit with a new lien six years after his prison stint for tax evasion.”
According to a county clerk, Mike has slowly but surely been paying off his debts.
The Situation is chipping away at his debt:
A clerk confirmed that in one lien, Mike “owes $9,324.” The IRS debt, which was filed in November of 2022, “is open and unpaid.” Meanwhile, in a massive lien that was filed in a different county, another clerk confirmed Mike still owes an eye-watering $2,295,745.26 from April 2022.ย “There is no release on that lien, it is still open,” the clerk said.
Additionally, a different clerk – in a third county – confirmed that the reality star has made some headway in a previously filed 2018ย tax lien. “There is a release for his 2018 lien. He paid $119,825.26 in 2024,” the clerk said. When a lien is fully paid, it is said to be “released” by the IRS. Mike’s tax attorney said the star is engaged in a payment agreement with the IRS over his outstanding debts.
“Michael Sorrentino entered into a repayment plan with the IRS more than 2 years ago, and he has been making regular payments, consistent with that agreement, on a monthly basis. “Mr. Sorrentino entered into an agreement to pay all of his outstanding tax liabilities, which are now less than $2 million,” she added.
ICYMI:
MTV‘s infamous reality star’s tax troubles began in 2014 as he faced federal tax fraud charges. The Situation was sentenced to eight months in federal prison in 2018.
He began his sentence in January 2019 and was released in September of the same year. Since then, the 39-year-old husband and father has (mostly) stayed on the straight and narrow. In 2020, Mike was accused of “slacking” on his community service.
