Sutton Stracke opens up about her demotion to ‘friend of‘ on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. In case you forgot, Sutton was originally billed as a full time housewife. Allow me to refresh your memory. Sutton explained on the Reality Life with Kate Casey podcast that she was demoted to part-time after her kids were unable to film.
What happened to Sutton’s diamond?
The ‘friend of’ explained, “My ex-husband just was adamant that they could not film with me, and I totally get it.” She elaborated, “It was hard. It was a hard blow because, you know, it’s exciting to do.”

As a Sutton stan, I am baffled by the mixed reviews she’s getting.
I recently chatted with Ashley from the Instagram account @babybencohen to break down the latest RHOBH installment, Read Between the Signs, for the On This Day Entertainment podcast. Ashley brought up a great point. She explained that since we don’t see Sutton at home with her family, audiences haven’t gotten to know her like the full time housewives. She thinks that may be cause of the disconnect…an interesting theory I can get behind.
The reason I love Sutton? I love a housewife that’s disconnected from reality. The money, the excess…that’s the appeal of Beverly Hills for me.
Sutton understands why audiences may not have warmed up to her:
During Sutton’s podcast appearance, she alluded to the same fact. “I wanted also viewers to see me with my kids and me at home. And it’s the softer side, I think, of all of us. When you get to see all of the ladies at home with their kids and their families, it’s kind of like, you know, you don’t they don’t show that much of it,” she said. “It’s clearly not that interesting. But it’s the soft underbelly of who these women are. And I’m sorry that we can’t see that this season.”
Why did Sutton continue on the show without a diamond?
She explained that she chose to move forward with her ‘friend of’ role on Bravo‘s hit show to give herself a “purpose.”
“I needed to be a role model for my daughter,” she said on Kate Casey’s podcast. “Like come on, get yourself together and start doing something for yourself to make her proud. And actually, my boys, too, they always wanted to know what I did all day. And it was like nothing. Like, go to the gym. I don’t know. I didn’t have like a real purpose besides taking care of them.”
