Well that didn’t age well…rumor has it Mel Owens is being recasted as the next Golden Bachelor after his controversial podcast comments backfired in a major way.
In Case You Missed It: the former NFL linebacker turned aspiring rose-giver told the In the Trenches podcast that he only wanted to date women between 45 and 60.
His exact words?
“If they’re 60 or over, I’m cutting them.”
The kicker? Mel is 66 years old.
Make it make sense!
Naturally, the backlash was swift — and the irony wasn’t lost on Bachelor Nation, considering the entire premise of the Golden Bachelor is to celebrate love later in life.

The reliable Bachelor insider dropped this bombshell:
“I’m hearing that Mel Owens is OUT as the Golden Bachelor due to recent negative publicity surrounding his June 4th podcast appearance. Expect an announcement soon including who is going to replace him. Haven’t heard a name yet on who that is. Will update if/when I hear.”
As of now, ABC has yet to comment — but with this much smoke, it’s hard not to assume the fire is coming.
Especially when the key demo watching likely falls within Mel’s “cut-off.”
