Over the weekend, Mikayla Matthews and Taylor Frankie Paul found themselves in a full-blown media war.
For context, Mikayla has recently faced criticism from fans who believe she’s been “rude” or “mean” toward Taylor.
Well, Mikayla explained why she may come across that way in an Instagram statement shared to her Stories on May 9.
“If I was knowingly giving myself rashes, I wouldn’t be expecting sympathy from anyone online or privately,” Mikayla began, using an analogy for Taylor’s repeated behavior.
“I absolutely agree that compassion should be felt for the people involved and for the situation itself. And believe me, I have felt absolutely sick to my stomach and horrible for what everyone involved must be feeling and going through,” she continued.
“However, it is not my job to enable poor or dangerous behavior from either party, especially when children are involved.”
As we saw play out on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Taylor and baby daddy Dakota Mortensen have long been stuck in a cycle of breaking up, making up, while never fully separating.
ICYMI:
The series kicked off with the aftermath of the infamous 2023 altercation between the duo, where Taylor threw a metal chair toward Dakota while her daughter was present.
As Taste Buds know, footage from the incident leaked to TMZ just days before Taylor’s season of The Bachelorette was set to premiere — ultimately derailing the entire rollout.
On the other hand, Taylor believes Mikayla has been waiting for her downfall all along.
Taylor jumped into the comments section of a Stephwithdadeets video to share her side of things.
“She is the epitome of someone that was waiting for my downfall and not only watched it, but clearly kicking me too. I rarely, if ever cried to her for help,” Taylor wrote.
“I’m fed up, but I knew she was going through her own stuff and I didn’t want to make it worse. Clearly she can’t do the same. Ps: she can find her way to the door if she doesn’t want to film with me.”
Mother’s Day Madness
The MomTokers continued trading subtle shots across comment sections, with Taylor also calling out the timing of Mikayla’s statement during Mother’s Day weekend.
“Didn’t know accountability became off-limits on holidays,” Mikayla clapped back.
“Maybe I should’ve thrown a bigger fit about it all coming to light the day before my birthday and the days after. If the concern was truly peace for Mother’s Day weekend, there were months of opportunities to move differently.”
When season 5 premieres on Hulu, it’s still unclear how involved Taylor will be following production being paused amid the fallout surrounding her and Dakota’s DV allegations.
