Former Real Housewives of Orange County star Lydia McLaughlin is devastated after her brother was shot to death by police during a traffic stop in California.
The deadly incident:
TMZ reported Lydia’s brother, “Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, was riding a motorcycle along the Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach when cops pulled over his vehicle.”
Sources say Stirling became “uncooperative” with police. At least one officer shot him. Geoffrey died later at a hospital. “Police say no officers were injured during the encounter.”
The California Attorney General’s Office has launched an independent review of the deadly shooting to get to the bottom of what happened.
The RHOC alum issued a statement Friday. “My family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn.”
Lydia’s brother was 45 when he was shot to death by police.
Lydia’s losses:
Last October, Lydia’s mother (who you may remember from RHOC) passed away.
Bravo TVย fans met the mother/daughter duo on the 8th season ofย RHOC. Judy was a colorful character who was especially memorable for her love of all things glitter. Lydia (and Judy) left after one season, but they returned for 12.
Lydia shared her familyโs sad news on Instagram. โMy mom passed away last night. ๐ค We are heartbroken but we know sheโs dancing with Jesus.โ
โFairy dust, confetti bombs and crowns like heaven has never seen before ๐,โ continued Lydia.ย โWhatโs in the cat is in the kitten and I promise to continue to make you proud.โ
Lydia’s Mom’ Cause of Death:
Later that month, Lydia thanked fans for their support, as well as shared what led to her motherโs passing during an Instagram Q&A.
โMy mom battled breast cancer for many years. [Judy] actually found out the end of my filming season 12 of RHOC and the producers knew and were very kind to us.โ
โShe lived 2 years longer than her doctors expected. She experienced a miracle during her battle.” Lydia continued, “She was very private about being sick, [as] she never wanted that to be part of her identity. She is the strongest person Iโve ever met, and I have learned so much walking with her through this journey.โ
The Bravo alum shared that her family celebrated Judyโs celebration of life last weekend. It was filled with โa lot of love, confetti, and glitter.โ
