Vanderpump Rules and Vanderpump Villa‘s matriarch Lisa Vanderpump and her husband Ken Todd claim they aren’t responsible for injuries a handyman sustained at her home.
Handyman Eric Nieto was working on the TV personalities’ Beverly Hills home in November 2023 according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. During the job, he allegedly fell.
Two years later, he filed a complaint alleging that he suffered severe injuries while he was using an interior stairway to the basement. Allegedly, he lost his balance after his foot got stuck “due to a dangerous and poorly maintained condition of the stairway.” Eric then allegedly fell, twisting his ankle and causing a Maisonneuve-type fracture.
He claimed the severe injuries required surgery, immobilization, and extensive follow-up care “He continues to suffer pain, functional limitations, and will require further medical treatment.” Eric requested $195k for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of wages, loss of earnings, and other fees.
However, on July 22, LVP and Ken denied the allegations, claiming Nieto was at fault. “If there was any negligence and carelessness contributing to the damages and/or injuries, it was the negligence and carelessness of Plaintiff [Nieto].”
Additionally, the denial claims state that if there were “dangerous” conditions, they were “open and obvious.” The couple alleges that they hired Nieto via an independent contractor. Because of that, they are “immune from liability for injuries caused to [Nieto] by the contractor’s alleged negligence in performing the work.”
They request the filing be dismissed. If not, they request a jury trial.
