Scheana Shay‘s music career launched with her first single, Good As Gold, but the track didn’t earn the former Vanderpump Rules star any cash.
During an appearance on the Detox Retox podcast, Scheana told Tom Schwartz the origin story of Good As Gold.
“So here’s what I was told,” began Scheana. “The two people who were the writers/producers on it had originally made the song for Selena Gomez. That’s what I was told.”
According to Summer Moon’s mom, Selena “passed on it.”
The song was then “offered” to Scheana. “I was like, ‘Okay. Amazing. To this day, I’ve not made a dollar on it.”
“I would have thought that I owned half of the master. [The writers] thought I owned half of the master. But, apparently, the manager that I had at the time … I don’t know. No one has the paperwork.”
Since there’s no paper trail, there isn’t much of a case for Scheana. “Unless I’m going to take someone to court, there’s no proof. There’s no contract. No one can produce it.”
In case this hasn’t made it to your desk, Selena Gomez is a VPR fan. In an interview with the Only Murders In the Building actress in May of 2024, Selena revealed that she and her close friend Taylor Swift have bonded over Bravo TV.
While it’s unclear when the self-made billionaires took a liking to Pump Rules, Selena confirmed she’s watched all 11 seasons with the original cast. She and Taylor even compare notes about the show.
Selena’s investment in VPR has crossed over to The Valley, which she is binging now. “I’m on The Valley now. I’ve watched every episode of Vanderpump, so I don’t care if it’s bad!”
