Production for The Bachelorette did their lead, Jenn Tran, DIRTY by failing to vet criminal, Devin Strader, from being part of the cast after multiple arrests. The already despised Bachelor Nation personality has a criminal record that wasn’t flagged by the show’s executives.
This, in my humble opinion, is a huge negligence on casting’s part that can not continue in this or any reality tv space. Devin dumping Jenn after she proposed to him is the least of his crimes against women at this point …
The universe was looking out for Jenn after all:
Bachelorette fans’ hearts broke watching Jenn have to face Devin during the show’s finale. It was awful to witness Jenn having to watch the proposal on stage. Production sat her next to the man that broke her heart with the world watching. I can’t imagine how horrible that must have been to live.
In a wild turn of events, the universe may have been looking out for Jenn’s well-being after all (since ABC’s production didn’t.)
Devin’s crimes:
According to reports from Reality Steve, Devin was arrested on accusations that he burglarized an ex-girlfriend’s Louisiana home in 2017. Legal papers obtained by Entertainment Weekly state his ex also had a restraining order against him at the time.
“In 2017, Strader’s ex-girlfriend told an officer that she and Strader had recently broken up.” Still, “he lived two doors down from her. After being out of town, she came home to find her house burglarized.” A “diamond necklace, one Strader had given her while they were still dating, was missing.”
A disrespectful d-bag:
“The woman also alleged to police that Strader had ‘come to her house banging on the door several times and screaming at her’ and that she had since filed a restraining order against him. ‘Later that evening, [Strader] made a fire out in the street with what appeared to be the actual restraining order,’ the affidavit further alleged. ‘She also had a tire flattened in her vehicle, and when it was getting changed, [Strader] came outside and began laughing at her.'”
“Strader was subsequently arrested on burglary charges. He ultimately pleaded guilty to charges of criminal trespass. He also pled guilty to simple criminal damage to property of less than $500 and received one year of unsupervised probation.”
The now-unsealed Petition for Protection From Abuse reveals Devin “spit on me and threw his drink on me at Pelicans game in front of everyone in the crowd.” Additionally, Devin “put me in a chokehold covering my mouth.”
Production didn’t catch any of Devin’s legal problems:
A source close to production stated, “We take the safety of our contestants very seriously and make every effort to conduct thorough diligence.”
“As exhaustive as our vetting process is, this protective order did not surface in our searches.”
