Daisy Toye is clearing up any confusion about her involvement in Martha Stewart’s controversial Halloween costume.
The Real Housewives of New York star – who is also Martha’s makeup artist – found herself being tagged in social media posts after Martha faced backlash for dressing up as a homeless person for Halloween.
Instagram’s Toronto Pop Zone shared Martha’s since-deleted photo, which reportedly appeared in a carousel promoting the lifestyle mogul’s candles sold on QVC.
“Ugh, Martha,” the account captioned the post, adding, “Martha Stewart thought it would be funny to dress up as a homeless person for Halloween.”
The photo quickly sparked criticism, with some social media users questioning the decision behind the costume and makeup.
Content creator Bravo Bo Dietl also weighed in, sharing the image to Instagram Stories with the caption, “This is actually insane.” Tagging Daisy, they asked, “Who did this makeup?”
However, Daisy was quick to shut down any speculation that she was responsible for Martha’s Halloween look. According to a screenshot of their exchange, the RHONY personality responded, “No, I didn’t actually” do Martha’s makeup on Halloween.
ICYMI, Martha deleted her Halloween photo and offered an apology a statement on social media. “I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention,” she said.
Martha also emphasized that homelessness remains one of America’s greatest ongoing crises and claimed she has dedicated considerable time and effort to supporting charities that address the issue. However, her initial explanation wasn’t enough to quiet the criticism, prompting her second statement.
“It’s hard to admit when you’ve really screwed up. My earlier statement didn’t go far enough,” Martha wrote via her Instagram Stories. “I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume as I did was insensitive and not funny.”
She concluded her message with a straightforward apology: “I am very sorry. Martha.”
