Carl Radke is opening up about his sobriety journey — and how Summer House production played a role in pushing him to get help.
During an appearance on the MeSsy podcast, Carl revealed that he sat down with production executives on two separate occasions, in 2018 and 2019, to discuss his partying.
“The suggestion was, ‘You should go to rehab. You should take a look at your drinking and also drug use,’” he shared.
The Summer House star admitted he struggled to publicly acknowledge the extent of his substance use at the time.
“I loved to drink, but when I drank, I had to do an upper or some sort of cocaine or Adderall,” Carl said.
He also recalled one producer directly confronting him about it.
Summer House to the Rescue
“One of the producers actually was like, ‘Carl, is it just your drinking, though?’ And the way she said it to me in that meeting, it was like, ‘She knows.’ I didn’t realize at that time everybody knew.”
In addition to heavy drinking, Carl said he “struggled hardcore” with cocaine use, explaining that when he partied, he would take whatever he could get his hands on to come down — and then get back up again.
Thankfully, Carl says his castmates began rallying around him as early as 2017, encouraging him to seek help.
“I’m very lucky. I had good friends that, I think, saw what I needed,” he said.
ICYMI: Carl first got sober in 2020, but began drinking again before Summer House resumed filming later that year.
After his brother Curtis died from a drug overdose in 2021, Carl made the decision to get sober for good.
