A Review of Something About Her Sandwich Shop

Lala Kent got it wrong when she snubbed the “realness” of Something About Her. Good things come to those who wait, and this West Hollywood sandwich shop is no exception.

Something About Her opened its doors in May, and it’s been a revolving door ever since.

We got to LA on a Friday and happened to walk past Something About Her toward late afternoon. There was a queue of about 20 people at that time. We noticed while passing that the patrons in line were given yellow SAH umbrellas to keep cool. This was such a nice touch but not at all surprising given it’s a woman owned business.

For Vanderpump Rules fans, the location of Something About Her is epic. It’s steps from The Abbey. IYKYK.

The Line

Like most people, I followed along on social media during opening weekend. Since then, foot traffic has died down, but the buzz remains. Instead of lining up in front of the shop, you were invited to wait about 10 feet away so as not to obstruct the surrounding businesses.

We went on a Sunday, which meant shop hours are 11AM – 5PM. Regardless of when you arrive, you’re going to have to wait. Might as well go earlier to avoid the sun as best you can.

Ashley and I were second in line to our new friends. Shout out to Dana and Katie who helped pass the time. Ironically as well, the 2 parties directly behind us had an “Ashley” in each group. Ashley was living for that moment.

It’s so cool to be surrounded by Bravo fans in the wild.

By the time we were let in, there were about 30 people behind us.

The Shop

Something About Her

Despite its opening at 11, we were not granted permission to enter the shop until about 11:15. No big deal but definitely of note.

One of the shop employees came to get each party one by one. First up, our new friends. They were inside for roughly 2 minutes prior to our ability to enter. It seems they waited for you to order before bringing in the next party to try to minimize crowding. BTW, everyone who works there is beyond sweet and lovely. Even though the doors opened late, the staff were apologetic and chatty.

The shop is tiny. I think that’s noticeable from social media, but I would say you couldn’t fit more than 20 people in there at any time.

After we ordered our sandwiches, we went to sit down and took it all in. From the coastal grandmother playlist to all the décor and wall art, there was so much to take in. It literally felt like you were in a rom-com.

The kitchen was quick to bust out the sandwiches. We waited maybe 10-15 minutes for our trays to be brought out. If that.

The Sandwiches

To get a better scope of offerings, we ordered three sandwiches – The Cameron, The Kate, and The Kerry.

SAH Menu

We’ll isolate the sandwiches we got, but please see the menu for full offerings. Also of note, every sandwich can be made into a salad for those carb conscious or gluten-free.

The Cameron $18: Rustic Ciabatta, Pesto Garlic Aioli, Genoa Salami, Sopressata, Mortadella, Roasted Red Peppers, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Pepperoncinis, Red Onion, Smoked Provolone, Homemade Balsamic Onion Marmalade, Fresh Basil, Zesty Lemon-Dressed Arugula, S&P.

The Kate $16: Rustic Ciabatta, Burrata, Heirloom Tomatoes, Shallots, Homemade Balsamic Onion Marmalade, Oregano, Fresh Basil, S&P.

The Kerry $15: Toasted 7 Grain Bread, Chickpea Salad, Kelp Flakes, Marinated Fennel, Preserved Lemon, Kal Amata Olives, Fennel Fronds, Gem Lettuce, S&P.

I got the Cameron and as an Italian sub fan, was very impressed. Of the three sandwiches we got, all of them had fresh bread and ingredients, and were extremely hearty. I’m used to having chips on the side for most sandwiches, but for these, you don’t need them. You want to save all your appetite to indulge in your sandwich.

The sandwiches are the main attraction, and they were filled with main character ingredients.

The Kate with The Kerry behind it

When we posted our TikTok giving a review of the sandwiches, quite a few comments pointed out the Cameron appearing burnt. I can promise you it was anything but. Like I mentioned above, all the sandwiches were lovingly made and crafted.

Ashley and I both split The Kate, which probably was for the best. This was soooo good, but very rich and on the sweeter side. I don’t think I could have eaten a whole sandwich, but half was perfect.

Below are Ashley’s thoughts on her vegan sandwich.

Something About Her Ashley

The Kerry

“It was delicious. The bread had a great bite and texture that led well to the ingredients in the sandwich. It gave major chicken salad vibes but was vegan. This sandwich is a reminder of how it doesn’t need to feel like a sacrifice to live a plant-based lifestyle.  I have a note though… It would’ve been nice to have gotten a fork and knife with my sandwich. It was deliciously stuffed, however hard to eat. There was a very generous amount of (locally sourced… not positive, but it tasted like the lettuce was just cut) ingredients, that I ended up making an open face sandwich. It was much easier to eat that way. I crafted my open face sandwich with my pickle spear, so again, a knife would have been nice. I’d order this every time I come.

Ashley also took one for the team and tried out Loverboy. I am not the biggest fan of canned seltzers, but I was pleasantly surprised. She shared her thoughts on that as well.

“The Loverboy was a delightful surprise. It’s available by the case where I live and was apprehensive about buying a case of a product, I was worried would taste like vape juice. That is my biggest qualm about canned cocktails being so popular right now. It tastes like somebody took a vape pen and dumped carbonated water into it. I did not get that at all with Loverboy. The flavor was very light. Only slightly sweetened. The bubbles added to my meal. It wasn’t too carbonated either because that would’ve made me burp not have been cute.”

You’ll notice that the sandwiches were held together by a toothpick adorned with a rose. This was a small detail that made a big impact. The trays also had the SAH insignia for branding.

Something About Her Cam

The Cameron

By way of pricing, they were pretty on par with most sandwich shops that aren’t national chains. That, and being in California, we weren’t terribly offended.

For three sandwiches, a can of Loverboy, and a boxed water, we spent a grand total of $81.41.

Final Something About Her Thoughts

Ray Charles can see that both Ashley and I are fans of Ariana and Katie, and some might think it could skew our perspective. We pride ourselves on being transparent with our readers and we wouldn’t not give an honest review based off that. Genuinely, Something About Her was worth every bite and penny.

It’s nearly September and SAH is just as raved about as ever. Our biggest recommendation when going is to go early and go on an empty stomach. While we were there and done eating, I did overhear the kitchen say they were running out of some ingredients already. I don’t know if they would have gotten another delivery that day but be mindful of your arrival time if you want to ensure your sandwich is in stock.

We got coffee and matcha at the next-door coffee shop which was refreshing while waiting in line.

To Katie and Ariana if you’re reading this, job well done ladies! SAH is a real gem, and we can’t wait to go back.
