Former Dancing With the Stars host, Tom Bergeron, poked fun at his cringeworthy comment to Olympian Simon Biles on season 24 of ABC’s popular competition show.
The timing of Tom’s post can’t be ignored. He posted this the same week that Jordan Chiles received negative feedback from some DWTS fans.
Tom showed support to Simone after his on-air gaffe:
The iconic DWTS host remembered back on a moment that, in retrospect, wasn’t one of his finest moments.
Tom wrote, “Best Comeback,” referring to a t-shirt Simone wore after he commented on her, which he now regrets. “Overall,” he continued, “my live TV tenure had only a few ‘Foot In Mouth’ moments.”
“The most memorable, to me anyway, was my comment to Simone Biles after Carrie Ann Inaba’s supportive words following more negative dance criticism from Len [Goodman] & Bruno Tonioli.”
“Instead of asking, ‘What do you think of that split decision?’ I said something like, ‘I noticed that you didn’t smile when Carrie Ann praised your dance.’ (Because what woman doesn’t love it when a dude brings up smiling? 🤦🏻)”
“Simone’s response was instantaneous & brilliant. A few days later, when she showed up wearing this t-shirt, I posed for this sheepish shot by her side.”
Let’s talk about the timing of this post …
Tom clocked the DWTS audience after season 34’s ‘Disney Week.’
Negative comments were made about the two-time winning Olympian, Jordan Chiles. Some viewers didn’t like the way she moved out of the camera’s frame. This is not a joke nor an exaggeration.
In addition to the way Jordan moved out of the camera’s view, fans were upset with her during eliminations.
Her pro partner, Ezra Sosa, lifted Jordan after they were declared safe for another week. Jordan, who was dressed as Princess Tiana, could be heard saying, “Put me down.” (Yes, that p*ssed people off.)
We can’t pretend Tom Bergeron didn’t know exactly what he was doing by posting this the photo with Simone. He was protecting Jordan from the same type of micro-aggression he had toward Simone.
With this post, Tom proved to be a kind, open-minded, and open-hearted man in the wake of his crappy comment about Simone not smiling. He heard his critics and made a change moving forward. We LOVE to see Tom sticking up for Jordan from afar!
