Lord Ivar Mountbatten responded to the viral clip of Meghan Markle ‘explaining’ her royal name to Mindy Kaling.
The ‘Faithful‘ competitor on The Traitors commented on a statement made by Prince Harry‘s wife on With Love, Meghan to Town & Country.
For context, Meghan said her family name was ‘Sussex.’
Misinformation from Meghan:
Lord Ivar – who is the second cousin of King Charles – insisted using a title as a last name is “completely incorrect.”
Meghan’s “family name is not Sussex,” began the Peacock personality.
“Her family name is Mountbatten-Windsor. [So,] her children are called Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. They’re not called Archie and Lilibet Sussex because Sussex is a title.”
Meghan’s title VS last name, explained:
“So, they are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but actually he’s Harry Mountbatten-Windsor and she would be Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor. My brother is the Marquess of Milford Haven, but his surname is Mountbatten, so he’s called George Mountbatten, the Marquess of Milford Haven.”
“When I read that, it was an article about her new program, and she said that her family name is ‘Sussex'” which breaks royal protocol.
When asked if he’s tuned in to With Love, Meghan, Lord Ivar responded, “No, I haven’t” watched it, but “I might be interested to watch it. It might not last long.”
ICYMI:
In With Love, Meghan, the former Suits actress claimed her last name is “Sussex.” Mindy Kaling referred to her as “Meghan Markle.”
“It’s so funny you keep saying ‘Markle.’ You know it’s Sussex now,” Meghan remarked to Mindy.
“You have kids and you go, I share my name with my children. I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, this is our family name. Our little family now.”
Mindy responded, “Now I know, and I love it.”
According to Meghan, she and Prince Harry were given the Sussex name by Queen Elizabeth II. The moniker became “part of our love story” on their 2018 wedding day.
Meghan and Harry, 40, welcomed son Archie in 2019 and daughter Lilibet in 2021.
