Legendary All My Children actress Susan Lucci appeared on CBS’s ‘Soapy‘ podcast to discuss the end of the iconic soap opera and her career’s future.
A look back:
Susan acknowledged that when All My Children came to an end in 2013, she experienced a “grieving period.” Additionally, she mourned her character, Erica Kane, whom she described as “spectacular.”
“Still to this day, people will ask me, ‘Do you miss it?’ Yeah, I miss the character, of course,” explained Susan. “I miss being part of that fantastic team. And it was a fantastic team. I miss that very much. And the individuals in that team. I remember walking into the building, I was always very happy walking into the building and going to my dressing room and seeing everybody.”
“Yes, it was a long time, but it was a new play every day.”
Susan Lucci – whose fame only escalated for her long streak as a perennial nominee at the Daytime Emmy Awards – praised the team for being a family. “The crew, the cast, the production team, the writers, everyone. Because we’re all in this building and we’re in the trenches together. We’re there till we get it right.”
Looking ahead:
Susan remains hopeful about a reboot of the series. That said, her costars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have also expressed interest in the project for some time.
“It’s been bubbling for several years,” shared Susan. “And then just when I think that it probably isn’t bubbling anymore, it’s bubbling. It’s bubbling as we speak.”
In 2022, Susan teased that AMC’s return was imminent. “There has been movement. I wish it were a quicker movement, but yes, everything in terms of being in the right hands, as far as I know, would be in place.”
“It’s really interesting, and the concept is so good,” she continued. “[It’s] in the right hands … [with] Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, who are both so terrific. They would be executive producers, so I’m really hoping that this is going to actually go forward.”
