The Bachelor‘s Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell Instagram statics show a spike in Rachael’s following while Matt’s dropped dramatically after their breakup.
Instagram’s @bachelordata provided statistics on the Bachelor Nation stars’ changes in follower counts after Matt blindsided Rachel.

Let’s start with Rachael, who ‘won’ Matt’s season of The Bachelor …
On January 13th, 2025, Rachael had 993,951 followers. The day Matt announced the breakup, 1/16/25, she had 994,524 followers. The following day, she broke a million followers … 1,011,467 to be exact.
Rachael gained over 16k followers in the next two days. The following week, she continued to increase her following.
Then, Rachael did the Call Her Daddy podcast. She gained 23,568 that day (1/24/25) and another 23,198 the next day totalling 1,082,012 followers.
And now for Matt:
Seemingly Matt’s red flags are flying for others (in addition to myself) …
On January 13th, 2025, Matt had 1,005,129 followers. The day Matt announced the breakup, 1/16/25, he had 1,005,289 followers. The following day, he gained another 1,272 followers. There were small fluctuations in his follower count over the next few days.
Once Rachael spoke out on social media, the tides turned for Matt. On 1/24/25, Matt lost 2,320 followers. He continued to lose followers for the next three days.
The day Rachael was on Call Her Daddy, Matt lost 7,526 followers. He lost 9,025 followers the next day leaving him with 999,315 followers.

Rachael was blindsided by Matt’s breakup … and subsequent Instagram announcement. Trinity Kirkconnell, Rach’s sister, replied to a fan comment on TikTok alleging Matt’s announcement came just THREE hours after the pair split.
Trinity commented on another TikTok video about the split. “Yea so they were still together when he was posting all that … just to give some perspective on the timeline of things.”
