Parker Posey confirmed that her super-specific accent on The White Lotus was inspired by Bravo TV‘s Southern Charm.
During an interview on Today, the Best In Show actress detailed the fun she had working on her accent for The White Lotus as well as her muses.
The White Lotus / Southern Charm connection:
“It starts with the dialogue,” explained Parker. “There are such funny words like ‘tsuuunaaami’ [and] ‘Buddhism'” in the script.
Parker continued, “When I was working on the Chris Guest movies, Chris and I would joke and go, ‘Noooooo, nooo. Piper, Noooo,'” in quirky southern accents.
Regarding the specificity of her accent on TWL, she credited a long-running Bravo reality show for inspo. “Of course, I love Southern women.”
“We all watch Southern Charm.”
The host interrupted, “The reality show?!” An enthusiastic Parker responded, “Yeah.”
The House Of Yes actress concluded, “Being able to be this dramatic and funny is just so juicy and fun to do.”
The comment section didn’t disappoint:
Madison LeCroy slid in the comments to write, “I’m dying! 🙌.” Bravoholics gave their opinion of her accent/performance from the first three episodes of TWL.
- She’s Patricia from southern charm and Moira from Schitts creek 😂
- All roads lead to Bravo 🙌😂
- Moira Rose 2.0
- 💯 Patricia from Southern Charm
- We need her in a reboot of Designing Women.
Thomas Ravenel and the fictional Timothy Ratliff:
Jason Isaacs brought to life ‘Timothy Ratliff’ — a well to do businessman from North Carolina. Both Jason and his TV son Sam Nivola were told by the Show’s creator to binge Southern Charm to draw(l) inspiration for the Ratliffs.
A few Southern Charm cast members, namely Cameron Eubanks, posted their thoughts surrounding the Bravo show’s connection to the third season. “Many of yall are echoing what I thought as soon as I heard the dad speak. ‘Damn, he sounds like Thomas Ravenel.’”
“That dialect is NOT North Carolina. It’s old Charleston.”
Thomas entered the chat.
“I’m confused. Some actor told a reporter he impersonated my voice with the exception of 2 vowels. Then, he told another reporter he borrowed the accent from a politician in North Carolina. I’m scratching my head over this.”
