Maura Higgins‘ reality TV resume grows as the breakout star of Love Island UK is slated to host Disney+’s upcoming reality series Blind Date.
The Traitors USA season 5 finalist will guide contestants as they look for love from behind a wall.
Variety revealed that the British dating show is being revamped by Hulu for modern audiences. It promises to be “bigger, better and bolder than ever.” Blind Date’s original iteration ran from 1985 to 2003.
The press release teased, “As with the original British format, contestants must choose between three potential suitors.” The show’s contestants will be “hidden from view behind the legendary Blind Date wall. The only thing standing between them and their potential true love is just meters away.”
“Fans can expect a host of innovative format twists and a spicy dose of drama.” Blind Daters “will see if forever love can truly grow … but potential new partners are always lurking behind the wall.”
Disney+ head of content Angela Jain provided a statement. “Maura is the perfect match for our version of Blind Date.”
“Her distinctive straight-talking humor, coupled with her experience as a reality dating show contestant, means we know she has the gravitas plus the wit to bring Blind Date to new audiences.”
Angela Jain continued, “We’re very much looking forward to Maura helping our daters navigate their own journeys to find love as she steps into the famed Blind Date host role.”
Maura will also compete on season 35 of Dancing With the Stars later this year.
