Almost a year and a half after Liam Payne‘s death, Harry Styles still struggles to deal with the loss of his friend/fellow One Direction bandmate.
In an interview with Apple Music, Harry spoke with “Full transparency” about Liam’s passing.
Grieving in the public eye:
“I think there was a period when he passed away where I really struggled kind of like acknowledging how strange it is to have people kind of like part of your grief in a way,” explained Harry.
The 32-year-old superstar said he had “such strong feelings” about his friend’s passing, but was aware that there was a “desire from other people” for him to “convey” his emotions publicly.
“It’s so difficult to lose a friend. It’s difficult to lose any friend, but it’s so difficult to lose a friend who is so like you in so many ways. Harry described Liam as having “the kindest heart” and simply “wanted to be great.”
Harry’s been more introspective since Liam’s death:
The pop singer said Liam’s death forced him to take a closer look at his own life. “What do I want to do with my life? Like, how do I want to live my life?”
Harry revealed that he thinks “the greatest way you can honor your friends who pass away is by living your life to the fullest.”
Liam was a “super special person,” Harry concluded.
An untimely death:
Liam Payne died in October 2024 after falling off the balcony of his third-story hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31.
He suffered multiple traumas, including a fractured skull, which led to internal and external bleeding.
In November 2024, Harry, along with his other 1D bandmates, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, gathered outside of London to lay Liam Payne to rest.
