Nicole Brown Simpson’s ex, Joseph Perrulli, revealed that Caitlyn Jenner had a gut feeling that Nicole Brown Simpson was in imminent danger around OJ Simpson.
During an interview with PEOPLE promoting his new book, The Forgotten Briefcase, author Joseph Perrulli recalled conversations he’s had with the Jenners.
ICYMI, Kris Jenner, Nicole’s close friend, set Joseph up with Nicole in 1992, shortly after she separated from the football player.
According to Joseph, Caitlyn told him at the time that Nicole was “wonderful” and a “great mother.” Joseph recalled Caitlyn saying Nicole’s “only problem is OJ.”
Still, Joseph became “extremely enchanted” with Nicole, and they started dating.
Joseph recalled leaving Nicole’s Brentwood house one night. He “got this eerie feeling” when he smelled her perfume outside. “A week later, a neighbor told Nicole she saw OJ — who Joseph claims wore the same perfume [Paco Rabanne] as her — hiding in the bushes that night.”
Nicole confronted OJ, according to Joseph. The NFL star claimed he “just happened to be driving by and wanted to make sure everything was okay.”
In his book, Joseph alleged that OJ told Nicole that he “didn’t have a problem” with him. However, he felt like “a man divided in two.”
“One side of me was falling in love, and the other side was wondering if love was even possible with someone in a situation like hers.”
During a dinner date with Nicole, she told Joseph that OJ beat her “really badly.” He recalled that Nicole “was shaking. It happened so quickly.”
“She blacked out. When she came to, she felt she couldn’t talk about it because it would hurt the children. She thought she was going to die.” Nicole allegedly told Joseph, “I’d rather die than go back to that man.”
He admitted he was “woefully unprepared” for how to respond because he “knew nothing about domestic violence.” Ultimately, Joseph ended his relationship with Nicole after a few months. He was unnerved by O.J. Simpson’s menacing and constant presence.
In June 1994, Joseph Perrulli learned the tragic news that Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman were both murdered outside Nicole’s home. He immediately assumed OJ killed them. “I certainly felt Ron Goldman could have been me,” Joseph shared. “Absolutely.”
