Karen Huger opened up about how she spent part of her time while incarcerated.
The RHOP star told Sherri Shepherd she helped herself through the process by helping others navigate their addiction.
“The reality of being inside is your liberties are gone,” Karen said.
“It’s a humbling experience, but an empowering experience if you don’t fight it. If you take it for what it’s supposed to be, which is to better you,” she said on Sherri.
Karen revealed that part of her healing journey and treatment involved helping others through their own experiences.
“When I say I was teaching the classes, that was treatment,” she said. “I taught NA and AA.”
Karen added that only people who have experienced what she has can truly teach it — the rest can simply “give opinions.”
Ultimately, she felt “compelled” to lend herself in this way.
“If I can stop one from coming back through that door, I’ve done my job.”
Whether she was behind bars or not, she was still a “momma bird.”
“I am the best teacher because I have the experience. I had a degree in that,” Karen reaffirmed.
ICYMI: Karen Huger was sentenced to Montgomery County jail following a March 2024 arrest for DUI and DWI after crashing her Maserati into a median and taking out street signs.
She was convicted in December 2024 and released in September 2025 after serving six months.
