90 Day Fiancé star Jenny Slatten told PEOPLE that she was diagnosed with ALS.
Sumit Singh and Jenny live in India and have been franchise favorites since they first appeared on The Other Way in 2019. The couple learned of Jenny’s diagnosis in December 2025, one year after she started experiencing symptoms.
The symptoms:
Jenny’s first realized something was wrong in December 2024 when she choked “badly” while drinking water. Soon after, she began to deal with migraines and had trouble swallowing pills.
When Jenny continued to experience difficulty swallowing, she and Sumit assumed it was “some kind of infection.” After Jenny started taking medication, Sumit says, her health improved slightly. But Jenny and Sumit noticed her speech slowing. “She began avoiding conversations and often refused to speak entirely.”
“That’s when we knew something was wrong,” Jenny recalled.
In December 2025, Jenny traveled to New York City for a 90 Day Fiancé holiday party. Her speech was notably slower. After seeing her in an interview, fans expressed concern for her health. Sumit decided to look into the disease. “I find out that these symptoms she was having. This is what it looks like.” That’s when it clicked … Jenny’s dad had died of ALS more than a decade ago.
Doctors’ notes:
It was believed Jenny had “a little clot” in her brain by a physician. But a second opinion revealed the truth: Jenny had ALS. “We cried and held each other.” The news left the couple “scared” about what the future holds.
Luckily, doctors have said the progression of Jenny’s ALS “is slow,” according to Sumit. Now, the couple is exploring possible treatments for the disease, which currently has no cure. “We’re doing what we can,” Jenny says.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a fatal and progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, according to the Mayo Clinic. The condition, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, leads to muscle weakness, as well as loss of mobility and speech.
