Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko were the 4th couple eliminated on season 34 of Dancing With the Stars, and the fitness influencer (literally) grabbed the mic to share a loquacious farewell.
A long slow goodbye:
The former professional dancer took the opportunity to gush over her “incredible experience” competing on DWTS. “I am so grateful to all of you. I’m so grateful to my children and my family. I’m cheering on everybody in the cast. This has been an amazing time.”
Her professional partner, Gleb Savchenko, praised her as an “inspiration.” Gleb described Hilaria as a “superhero and an incredible mom.” Just after their elimination, Gleb whispered to Hilaria, “Listen, I’m so proud of you.”
Hilaria cried in a post-show interview about her heart being “a little broken.” She told Good Morning America that she felt “sad because this has been wonderful.”
The swan song:
DWTS’s Disney Night allowed Gleb and Hilary to perform a quickstep to “Cantina Band” from “Star Wars: A New Hope.” Judges Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough were left conflicted.
Despite the mixed feedback, Hilaria and Gleb still received one of the higher scores of the night: 23/30. Eliminations are determined by the judges’ scores combined with viewer votes.
In case there was a question of how America is voting on DWTS, here’s your answer. Despite Hilaria and Gleb’s high score, they went home once fan votes were calculated.
There’s no doubt Hilaria was a controversial casting choice, considering she’s known to many for misrepresenting her background.
In December 2020, social media users questioned the authenticity of Hilaria Baldwin’s Spanish heritage after observing her changing accent and linguistic habits in interviews. It was revealed that Hilaria Baldwin, who was born Hillary Lynn Hayward-Thomas in Boston, Massachusetts, had presented herself as being from Spain. Hilaria said she was born in Boston but spent part of her childhood in Spain, a detail often omitted in previous interviews/social media videos.
