Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria isn’t rewatching ABC’s legendary melodrama, but she loves that a new audience is experiencing the show in all its glory.
During an appearance on the Dinner’s On Me podcast, Eva discussed how streaming and social media clips have revived the hit show that ran from 2004 to 2012. “Everybody’s re-watching it. It was like number two the other day on the streaming.”
She laughed about the feeback she’s gotten. “I keep getting like notifications like, ‘Do you want to watch Housewives?’ I go, ‘No, I don’t. I’m fine. I made it.'”
Fans have asked if a return to the iconic Wisteria Lane was in the cards. “The number one question is, ‘You going to do a reboot? You going to do a reboot?’ Because of all the reboots [out now.]” In short, Eva’s answer is ‘No,’ but another key player also passed on the idea.
Eva said that even creator Marc Cherry said, “No.”
“He never wants to. He’s like, ‘This was a time where we did 24 episodes a year for a decade. There’s none of this six-to eight bullsh*t you know? So Marc’s like, ‘We fully mined the characters.'”
Eva joked about her role as Gaby Solis. “I was like, ‘I can’t sleep with one more person on the street.’ Like, I literally have slept with everybody.”
Speaking of Marc Cherry (who wrote/produced The Golden Girls), Eva said he would be the person involved that would require the “most convincing” to return for a reboot of the 2000s show. “He feels like we’ve exhausted the characters.”
“Unlike Sex and the City, [which] was only like six episodes, eight episodes a year, we did 24 episodes a year for a decade.”
