Southern Charm star Craig Conover is opening up about how he changed his relationship with alcohol.
During an appearance on We Met at Acme, Craig explained that he went nearly a year without drinking before finding a more balanced approach to alcohol.
“The only way for me to change my relationship with alcohol was to cut it out of my life,” he shared. “And so for almost a year probably, I really didn’t touch it.”
Craig credited the Reframe app with helping him rethink his drinking habits. Rather than focusing solely on sobriety, the app encourages users to change their relationship with alcohol.
“You track [your drinking]. What that allowed me to do is turn it into a reward or something special, instead of something that was a part of my everyday life,” explained the Sewing Down South owner.
In retrospect, Craig realized that drinking had become an ingrained part of his daily routine. “Basically, we lived to drink. We were living this life where that’s just what you did,” he recalled. Alcohol was even part of Craig’s professional life, including during meet-and-greets and while filming the Bravo reality series.
“I didn’t know. I did my meet-and-greets, and I would drink beer during it. Or, I would go out, or we would be filming,” Craig continued.
Today, however, he doesn’t drink as part of his everyday routine. Craig enjoys alcohol on special occasions, such as sharing a nice bottle of wine with friends at a restaurant. “I said this to one of my castmates the other day. His head almost exploded,” he added.
Craig then revealed a particularly significant milestone in his journey: “I don’t think I had a drink by myself in three years.”
