Below Deck Down Under‘s Daisy Kelliher and Jason Chambers reacted to a charter being served dish-soap-soaked scrambled eggs from Chef Ben Robinson and Ellie Dubaich‘s kitchen.
The Captain and the Chief Stew commented on the egg mishap on the Below Deck Down Under After Show.
A side of suds:
Daisy looked back at the charter’s culinary flop. “I did think [the guests] were being dramatic. Like, they’re just being assh*les.”
“I thought the dish hadn’t been washed out properly,” continued the Chief Stew. But, Daisy tasted the scrambled eggs only to describe them as “so gross.”
“It tasted like a lavender field. It wasn’t a dollop of olive oil.”
Kitchen confidential:
Ellie explained that the kitchen’s soap dispenser disappeared, so they used a clear squeeze bottle (the same style used to drizzle olive oil) at the hand washing sink. She recalled cleaning up from the beach party the night before, and noted that the soap went from the picnic basket to the counter.
When reflecting on the situation, Chef Ben admitted, “I should have been more hardcore” with the kitchen’s labeling system. “I have to own it as well because it’s my department. I think I would have seen the viscosity and I would have seen the green as well.”
According to Ellie, “It’s hard to make a good scramble, and I made it perfectly as well. The scramble was great,” which makes finishing them off with dish soap even more “mortifying.”
At the end of the ordeal, Ellie was impressed by how Chef Ben took “ownership” of the mistake. Chef Ben reasoned that Ellie was just starting to “take her job more seriously.” So, he didn’t want to derail her. Ben figured, “You’ve got to move on from it. Have a laugh about it.”
Oh Captain, My Captain:
Jason Chambers handled the situation earnestly.
He reasoned, “If you bring some humor into it, if you can make people very comfortable and you have a relationship with them, especially in issues like that, you can still make a bit of comedy out of it.”
“Apologize,” explained Jason. “Make a joke out of it, and it can be brushed over very quickly.”
