Dancing With the Stars funnyman Andy Richter wants the world to see him for more than his weight.
During his podcast, The Three Questions with Andy Richter, the former late-night TV sidekick to Conan O’Brien explained why he’s tired of his weight being a topic of conversation.
Fat jokes:
“One of my standard lines is, ‘I didn’t know there were so many ways to call someone fat: Cherubic. Rotund.’ It was galling to me at the time.”
During a 2015 episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien, the Madagascar actor accidentally broke a sofa he was sitting on during a live television filming. “You just broke the couch? You’ve been here 22 years. The couch has never broken.”
Andy explained it wasn’t the first time that had happened. “No, I actually broke it once, but I didn’t notice it until [the] commercial.” The actor/comedian said it would be nice to be recognized for his other qualities.
“They say nothing about my right-handedness, about my Caucasian [ethnicity], about my blue eyes. They don’t say anything about my good, strong teeth, but they have to mention that.”
NO-NO-NO-NOzempic:
Earlier this year, the DWTS contestant shared that he considered using weight-loss medication. Unfortunately for Andy, his insurance won’t cover the drugs. “I actually have investigated getting on some of these types of drugs.”
“I’m not diabetic, I’m not pre-diabetic but I obviously have weight to lose and I have sleep apnea. I’m sure being overweight doesn’t help with sleep apnea.”
“I’ve investigated it, and it’s just, it’s cost-prohibitive to me at this point. They’re so expensive. And my insurance is not covering them.”
Andy’s lost weight the old-fashioned way:
The Elf actor credited DWTS with helping him spend more time moving his body. “I didn’t want to do it. But then I thought, ‘No, I need to do this. I need to do this just to get moving.’”
“It got me to go to the gym and do cardio, which I loathe. I started to do a lot more stretching to prepare myself.”
