Andy Cohen receives online criticism for asking Housewives about their cosmetic procedures.
No matter the city or franchise, the amount of work a respective housewife receives is always a topic at reunions.
During part 1 of the Real Housewives of New York reunion, Andy praised Jessel Taank for her “glowup” from last season. He said she’s “an airbrushed version of herself.”
This compliment segued into questioning whether she’s had work done.
Jessel revealed that she’s gotten Botox since she was 27 years old. Both Brynn Whitfield and Andy insisted she wasn’t being transparent.
Andy in the hot seat
X account (JulyShit) called out Andy for constantly calling out the ladies’ surgical habits.
“The millions of women who watch these franchises are tired of you asking women “what work they had done”. This isn’t 2009 anymore and women can do whatever they want to their face/bodies. It’s time to retire this question. It’s rude and does 0 for the viewers”
Andy’s response:
“‘what work have you done’ remains at the top of the list of viewer questions every season, every franchise. The HW have unabashedly let us into their beauty regimes since day one; It’s a big part of the series DNA.”
Some viewers didn’t agree that Andy singled out Jessel as he grills everyone.
Others agreed that this question is antiquated and should no longer be asked.
I tend to agree with Andy, personally.
My 2 cents
He’s right — a large part of the show’s culture is centered around vanity and opulence. Almost every lady on any franchise has filmed themselves getting filler and other medical procedures at some point. It would be weird for it to not be a topic of conversation.
Especially when cast members do tend to “glowup” each season they appear.
The other layer is that women largely watch these shows. We want to see what work these ladies do because maybe perhaps “we” can aspire to that.
Hello lip filler and Kylie Jenner anyone??
