Spoiler Alert: Season 5, Episode 3 …
While competing alongside her father, Mauricio Umansky, Alexia revealed to the directing staff (DS) – and later her fellow recruits, including her dad – that a friend took advantage of her during a trip with friends seven years ago.
The emotional confession marked a significant moment for Alexia, who admitted she had never told her family what happened.
After Alexia lost the milling (aka boxing) match to Candace Cameron Bure, DS pulled her in for interrogation. “After what happened to me, it’s been hard.”
“Seven years ago, I was on a trip with some friends,” began Alexia. “I was with people I trust. I was put to bed ‘cause I had a little too much to drink, and I woke up, and I could tell something had happened.”
She added, “I didn’t even have the power or consciousness to say no. I felt completely objectified. And I had a lot of pain and anger,” added Alexia.
She tried to move forward on the first anniversary of the incident, but acknowledged that the experience still hurts.
In a confessional, Alexia reflected on why she had kept the experience from her loved ones. “I was taken advantage of. My family, to this day, does not know,” she said.
“When you bring other people into it, it just becomes more of a conversation.” Alexia continued, “And maybe a conversation was what I needed, but I just wasn’t ready. I was not ready for that.”
Alexia opened up to the recruits, including her dad:
“I have something I went through that was definitely the hardest thing I ever went through. It’s hard to talk about because you don’t know,” she explained before addressing Mauricio directly.
“I was taken advantage of by a friend. It’s not anything I ever wanted you to know. I kinda wanted to protect you guys from [it].”
Mauricio questioned why his daughter felt she needed to shield her family from what she had experienced. “I don’t know why you would feel like you would need to protect us from that,” he told her.
Alexia explained that she simply had not been ready to discuss the incident before now, adding that she had made progress in her healing journey. “I’ve definitely healed, I’ve come a long way since then,” she told the her dad and the group.
Mauricio responded by telling his daughter, “I love you,” as fellow recruits offered words of encouragement and support.
“Thanks for sharing,” Candace Cameron Bure said, while Maxim Naumov described Alexia’s confession as “so f*cking powerful.”
