Dance Moms alum Abby Lee Millerย detailed her lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital for professional negligence.
She told TMZ that after years of unbearable pain following her 2020 surgery, she discovered a catheter had been left inside her body. ALM filed for “medical negligence, professional negligence, medical battery, and more.”
She is asking for $1.4 million in damages.
Abby’s advocated for herself since her 2020 surgery:
The choreographer continually reported her pain to her doctors. For years, Abby was “completely ignored.”
She suffers from Burkitt lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. That led to an emergency surgery for what was initially thought to be a spinal infection.ย
The surgery, which was performed to remove a tumor on her spine, left her temporarily paralyzed.ย While declared cancer-free in 2019, ALM uses a wheelchair due to ongoing pain, muscle atrophy, and reduced mobility caused by the cancer and subsequent treatment.
Another reason Abby has physically suffered is that she didn’t have access to her meds while incarcerated. “In prison, I was punished and taken off all my medication, cold turkey,” explained ALM on the Just B podcast last year.
“That’s why I’m in a wheelchair.”
A medical professional finally took Abby seriously:
… a dermatologist, in fact.
They noticed a giant pimple and knew there was reason for concern. The blemish was a sign that something foreign was trapped in ALM.
Again, the reality tv personality claimed her complaints were disregarded and largely ignored until one of her non-dermatological doctors eventually performed a CT scan.
The CT scan revealed a “retained catheter” that was left inside Abby’s body after the surgery.
File this under reasons we need to advocate for ourselves medically!
