Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice reflected on her time in “camp” for her role in Joe Giudice‘s financial crimes.
Teresa has regrets, “For my children,” but maintains that she wasn’t privy to Juicy Joe’s multiple counts of financial and bankruptcy fraud.
In an interview The Hollywood Reporter did with the stars of Ultimate Road Trip, Teresa explained, “I’m always a mom first. I always want to protect my children. At first, I was like, ‘Let’s do this!’ But at the time, I didn’t really understand what my ex-husband had done. So, I wanted to go to trial and fight it.”
“I guess – because I’m on TV – I just thought we had to go through the process. But I never in a million years thought I’d go to jail. I just thought I had to go through the process.”
“Celebrity made me go to jail,” Teresa avowed. “They made an example of me. I know I didn’t do anything. I wasn’t a criminal.” She stated, “I went to a closing. That’s all I did. I went to a refinance for a home closing. That’s what I did. I put my John Hancock on that dotted line, and I went to jail because of that.”
“I’ll die … My story will never change.”
“New Jersey’s a small town, meaning everyone knows everybody. Everyone knew I had nothing to do with my husband’s business.”
“I was a housewife. I stayed home, watched the kids, that’s it.” She continued, “I cooked, I did laundry, I was a real housewife. I had nothing to do with my husband’s finances.”
Teresa, “thought it was a joke.”
“Because I’m on TV, I have to do this. I know I’m not going to jail – I didn’t do anything.”
Teresa learned she was wrong the hard way. The mother of four dorters served eleven months of a fifteen-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, after pleading guilty to bankruptcy, mail, wire, and bank fraud. She entered prison in January 2015 and was released on December 23, 2015.
