The co-founder of the rap-rock band died at a Los Angeles home per the county’s medical examiner. A cause of death has yet to be revealed. Law enforcement sources told TMZ “cops are looking into the possibility of a fatal drug overdose.”
Shifty was a cultural mainstay of the early aughts:
In 1999, Shifty and Bret “Epic” Mazur, formed Crazy Town. The group released its 2000 single, Butterfly, which rocketed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 music chart. Their debut album, “The Gift Of Game,” was also a success, selling more than 1.5 million copies.
In addition to being the frontman of the ‘You’re my butterfly sugar baby‘ band, Shifty was well-known for appearing on seasons one and two of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Filmed at theย Pasadena Recovery Center, Shifty sought treatment for his addiction to cocaine. He appeared on the ground-breaking reality show alongside Jeff Conway, the iconic actor from tv’s Taxi and the movie musical Grease, Daniel Baldwin, and Brigitte Nielson.
Sadly for Shift and Jeff Conway, both returned for season 2 of Celebrity Rehab as they both relapsed. Dr. Drew also treated Rodney King, Gary Busey, and Steven Adler during the show’s second season.
