Sharna Burgess blasted the behind-the-scenes claims of “toxicity” on Dancing with the Stars.
The former pro, who started on season 16, took to her Instagram stories to defend production and the pros.
The show VS social media:
A fan asked Sharna about the rumors of DWTS being a “toxic” environment. “I’ve never heard this, but I’m gonna have to assume the fandom (some not all obvi).”
“It’s certainly not the show itself or the people on it.”
“Gosh, I hate even seeing those two words together. It’s so sad, but the online hate is just another level these days. On the flip side, so is the online love and adoration. It’s the ying and yang, the balance,” she explained. “Where there are more people who love, there will also be more people who don’t.”
Sharna added that the show’s popularity has inspired “every man and his dog [who] wants to go viral with their ‘hot takes'” to leave their criticisms online. She pointed out that “most of them would cry for a photo with any of the people that they speak so portly of if given the chance.”
Never forget:
The former pro won the coveted Mirrorball with her celebrity partner, Bobby Bones’ partner in season 27. If you’re not down with the DWTS lore, Bobby Bones’s win remains controversial. Many complained Bobby won DWTS because of popularity, not skill or growth.
Bobby Bones recently shared that he sent his Mirrorball trophy “back to ABC” following criticism of his win. The radio host addressed “hurtful” comments former host Tom Bergeron made in the press.
Bobby Bones shared, “I try not to get my feelings hurt, especially about stuff like this. But this was hurtful.” He added that it wasn’t “because of what was said, but really who said it.”
“Like what did I do?” Bones wondered. “I had a great attitude. I worked hard, and here we are, like six years later, I’m still catching strays out of nowhere.”
“So I sent the trophy back to ABC. I no longer have the Mirrorball trophy.”
