Paramount Global is shutting down several of its dedicated international music channels, however, America’s main MTV channel (and sub-channels like MTV2 and MTV Classic) will remain unaffected by this specific closure.
What’s out?
By December 31, 2025, Paramount will permanently close five iconic music-focused channels across Europe, Australia, Brazil, and other international regions: MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live.
These specific shutdowns primarily affect the UK and Ireland.
What’s in?
Since audiences increasingly consume music videos via digital platforms, the flagship MTV channel will continue to focus almost exclusively on reality programming such as Catfish, The Challenge, Teen Mom, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, Jersey Shore Family Vacation, and RuPaul’s Drag Race.
A live schedule remains for the flagship MTV linear channel, which features movie marathons and Ridiculousness.
The website:
The website MTV.com has undergone significant changes. This comes as part of Paramount’s broader digital restructuring, a decision driven by a shift in global media consumption and corporate financial strategies.
In mid-2024, Paramount purged decades of content from MTV.com and its sister site, CMT.com. This included nearly 40 years of MTV News articles, interviews, and historical archives.
The website now primarily serves as a landing page for current show schedules and promotional material. It directs users to watch full episodes on Paramount+.
