Mayci Neeley isn’t letting criticism about her memoir get her down.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about the mixed feedback surrounding her book, Told You So, after some readers described the writing style as “elementary” or “poorly written.”
“The best part [of releasing the book] is seeing how many women have DMed me and how many people it’s impacted,” Mayci shared.
“I think that’s the coolest part of it.”
Of course, with positive reviews also comes negative ones, and those comments eventually made their way across the famous MomToker’s desk.
Still, Mayci insists the tone of the book was intentional.
She explained that the memoir was meant to read more like a diary.
“I’m not writing super eloquently in it, you know what I mean?” she said.
“I’m just writing down my thoughts in that moment. So I think that some people maybe didn’t understand that.”
While the criticism was tough to read after working so hard on the project, Mayci said the number of women who connected with her story far outweighed the negativity.
“The impact is so much louder than the criticism, and it’s been honestly amazing overall. I’m really happy I did it,” she said.
ICYMI: The Mormon Wives star released Told You So in October 2025.
In the memoir, she opens up about navigating abusive relationships, the sudden death of her oldest son’s father while she was pregnant, and her journey with Mormonism.
When The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives returns on March 12, viewers will also get a look at Mayci’s writing process and her subsequent book tour.
