Hilary Duff’s husband has officially entered the “toxic mom group” chat.
Matthew Koma — equal parts musician and online troll — shared his own satirical take on the article penned by Hilary’s former friend, Ashley Tisdale.
“When You’re the Most Self-Obsessed, Tone-Deaf Person on Earth, Other Moms Tend to Shift Focus to Their Actual Toddlers,” he titled the fake headline.
Matthew’s copycat title clearly poked fun at Ashley’s recent The Cut essay, where she detailed her decision to leave a “toxic” friend group.
(That group includes Matthew’s wife Hilary Duff, actress Mandy Moore, and singer Meghan Trainor.)
Ashley didn’t name names in the essay.
After it went viral, her rep denied that the article was about her famous mom group that she previously posted with online.
Her rep also shut down claims that the fallout had anything to do with differing political views.
That said, Ashley was accused online of being MAGA — a viewpoint that does not align with Hilary Duff or Mandy Moore.
Line in the Sand
In fact, there’s long standing speculation that Hilary and her older sister, Haylie Duff, no longer speak due to Haylie’s move to Texas and more conservative views.
While there’s no official confirmation of that theory, fans have noted that the sisters stopped appearing together publicly and engaging on social media around the time Donald Trump was first elected.
Adding another wrinkle, Haylie Duff also “liked” Ashley Tisdale’s Instagram post sharing her The Cut essay.
Matthew’s mock article, which he posted (and deleted) to his Instagram Stories, is the only “statement” we’ve seen from that camp since mommygate became one of the first pop culture dramas of the new year.
ICYMI: Matthew and Hilary met in 2015 while collaborating on her album Breathe In. Breathe Out.
The couple married in 2019 and share three daughters — Banks (7), Mae (4), and Townes (1). Hilary is also mom to son Luca (14), from her previous marriage to former NHL player Mike Comrie.
