Convicted murderer of two, Mackenzie Shirilla, worries she’ll be too “old” to have kids when her prison sentence ends.
For context:
As shown in Netflix‘s viral documentary, The Crash, Mackenzie is currently serving two concurrent life sentences in the Ohio Reformatory for Women after her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, died in a car crash she caused in July 2022.
Makenzie was convicted of 12 felony charges during a 2023 trial, which included murder, felonious assault, and aggravated vehicular homicide.
During a phone call, which was obtained by PEOPLE, Mackenzie said she “doesn’t want to live here with these people,” referencing her fellow inmates that Natalie called “murderers [and] kidnappers.”
Babies on the brain:
In an undated jail call between Mackenzie and her mother, Natalie Shirilla, the incarcerated 21-year-old discussed life in Cuyahoga County Jail, including that she might not “be able to have kids.”
Natalie, like her husband, has defended Mackenzie’s abhorrent behaviors long before she was found guilty of murder. Her delusion continued despite her daughter being behind bars. “But anyway,” her mom reasoned, “since you have to spend time there, we all knew you were going to anyway, it [prison] doesn’t sound so, so bad.”
Mackenzie told her mom her hopes for her life post-prison. “I feel like I want to live off the grid, like, I’m just I’m thinking about like how I’m just gonna be like old when I get out of jail and like, I don’t know, like I’m not gonna be able to have kids or like a family and sh*t like that.”
After Natalie told her daughter not to “go there.” However, Mackenzie responded, “I know, it’s hard not to.”
ICYMI:
Mackenzie’s dad, Steve Shirilla, was placed on leave from his elementary school job for “poor judgment,” as reported by 19 News.
The school sent an email to the families of their students. “We want every parent and family to know that the safety, well-being, and trust of our students remain among our highest priorities. We take all student concerns seriously and are committed to responding promptly and responsibly whenever concerns are brought forward.”
