MTV’s parent company, Paramount, announced that Love & Hip Hop is ending after a decade and a half on air.
Love & Hip Hop: New York debuted in 2011, with Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta coming out the following year. In 2014, Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood dropped with the final series of the franchise, Love & Hip Hop: Miami, premiering in 2018.
L&HH spinoffs include 2012’s Chrissy & Mr. Jones, K. Michelle: My Life in 2014, and 2016’s Stevie J & Joseline: Go Hollywood. In 2021, VH1 pivoted to limited crossover event series like Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition, which brought together cast members from all four cities.
Likely, the most notable Love & Hip Hop alum is rapper Cardi B.
To bring things to a close for a franchise, MTV is airing a six-part special titled Love & Hip Hop: The Final Chapter later this fall. Paramount says of the special:
“Love & Hip Hop: The Final Chapter explores the rise of its breakout stars, the business empires they built, the headlines that dominated the conversation, and the franchise’s lasting cultural impact.
“Featuring new interviews with cast members from every city – New York, Atlanta, Hollywood, and Miami – alongside the producers and executives who brought the franchise to life, as well as journalists and cultural critics who have followed its evolution from the beginning, the series offers a comprehensive look at the phenomenon that reshaped reality television and left an undeniable mark on the culture.”
FYI, current seasons of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta will continue to air Tuesdays on MTV, and Love & Hip Hop: Miami will continue to air its current season on Wednesdays on BET.
