Kyle Cooke is showing support for his costars following an important conversation about race that aired on Summer House.
During the episode “Make Ups and Make Outs,” Ciara Miller opened up about the social media backlash and real-world pressure that can come with interracial relationships, referencing her situationship with West Wilson and how the dynamic carried more weight for her than just a summer fling.
The moment led to a deeper discussion among the group about how Black cast members are perceived on reality TV, especially while filming on a predominantly white show and network.
After the episode aired, Kyle took to Instagram to publicly support Ciara, KJ Dillard, and Mia Calabrese for being vulnerable enough to lead the conversation on camera.
Kyle Enters the Chat
“I want to thank Ciara, KJ and Mia for being courageous enough to have an incredibly difficult but much-needed conversation about race and privilege on a predominantly white TV network,” he wrote on March 18.
Kyle acknowledged that while the cast may be filming the same show, their experiences are not the same.
“Even though we are filming the same show and being asked to do the same thing, their experience is different than mine, and they face such harsh criticism and backlash — a microcosm of what it’s like to be Black in America,” he continued.
He also pointed out the unique setting of the series, noting the privilege tied to both the Hamptons and the audience watching at home.
“I’m so proud of them for being brave enough to do this on a show that revolves around partying in one of the most privileged zip codes in the world, watched by a predominantly white audience.”
Season 10 of Summer House has already featured multiple conversations about race, identity, and what it means to exist in spaces that weren’t necessarily built with everyone in mind.
What makes this cast dynamic work is that the discussions feel natural and honest rather than forced, which hasn’t always been the case when reality shows try to address these topics.
Kyle articulating that difference — while also acknowledging his own privilege — is exactly why the moment landed the way it did!
