Congratulations to Katie Thurston and Jeff Arcuri, who were married on Saturday, March 22nd, a month after the former Bachelorette was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Katie and the comedian exchanged “I do’s” in an intimate backyard ceremony in their home, according to reports from US Weekly.
Jeff was asked how Katie’s stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis has affected their relationship. “You would think it would cause more tribulation or problems, but it’s bonded us more than anything else.”
In sickness and in health:
Jeff not only stayed by his fiancee’s side, but he expedited the marriage process to make sure he would be next to Katie every step of the journey. “I want to be able to be in the hospital with her and just be like, ‘My wife’s in there.’ There’s more power to that,” he said. “I don’t want to be not with you for any of this.”
The Bachelor Nation alum became emotional as she recalled Jeff’s “sweet sentiment of being there for me.” The timing is especially significant as Katie begins a personalized treatment on Thursday, March 27. Following that treatment, which could involve several rounds of chemo, she will undergo surgery.
Change of (wedding) plans:
“It was so sweet. Obviously, we were wanting to plan a wedding and there’s a lot of emotions that come in with chemo and the impact and the health. We don’t know what the next year looks like,” explained Katie.
“One night he said, ‘I want to show you that I still love you and that I’m here to stay. I’ll get married to you tomorrow.’ We flew our parents in from Michigan and Washington State. We got our marriage license and a friend [married] us.”
After exchanging traditional vows at home on Saturday (with their dog, Charlie, and their parents in attendance), they celebrated with dinner at Da Andrea.
Looking forward to the future:
Katie and Jeff plan on having a “bigger wedding with personalized vows” once Katie beats cancer. She explained, “It was this kind gesture of him saying, truly, in sickness and in health. He is proving that he’s here to stay. He shows up every day and he does it in ways that just continue to surprise.”
We wish Katie and Jeff a life of health and happiness.
