Katie Thurston is opening up about the next steps in her stage 4 breast cancer journey.
“I wanted to give an update on my latest chapter as someone experiencing [and] navigating stage four breast cancer,” the former Bachelorette began in a recent Instagram post.
She explained that life with stage 4 means she’ll be on medication indefinitely.
“It’s kind of like a maintenance plan, which is great but also can be scary.”
Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2025 after finding a lump the previous summer.
With her partner by her side, comedian Jeff Arcuri, she has been fighting with courage and transparency, updating fans as she navigates treatment.
Each month, Katie undergoes lab work to track how her body is responding.
A recent round raised some concerns, prompting her doctor to adjust her medication. Instead of three pills a day, Katie now takes two—a change that’s proven beneficial.
Even more encouraging, the spread of cancer to her liver has “disappeared on its own” and no longer shows up on scans.
Katie remains optimistic about her next scan, scheduled for next month, which she hopes will show “no evidence of disease.”
If the results are favorable, she’ll be able to move forward with her next step: a double mastectomy.
“In November, I have scheduled my double mastectomy,” she shared, describing it as “like a whole other chapter” that she’s preparing for, while admitting she’s still learning what that experience will entail.
“Things are working so far and we’re adjusting,” she added.
