Watching the Summer House season 10 trailer felt a little too familiar for Katie Maloney.
One of the central conflicts teased in the trailer is Kyle’s continued late night partying and DJ lifestyle, despite Amanda repeatedly expressing her desire for a quieter, more settled life.
It’s a dynamic Vanderpump Rules fans watched play out for years between Katie and Tom Schwartz.
Tom’s inability to prioritize Katie or their marriage ultimately led to their divorce.
And for Katie, the similarities are hard to ignore.
“I am feeling like I am watching a clip from my past,” Katie said on the December 17 episode of the Disrespectfully podcast.
Katie reflected on how relationship struggles feel heightened when they’re unfolding on television.
When the audience weighs in, the instinct can be to try even harder to prove everyone wrong and hold the relationship together at all costs.
But ignoring the signs doesn’t make them disappear.
While Katie acknowledged that editing and outside noise don’t always tell the full story, patterns shouldn’t be dismissed.
At the end of the day, she believes choosing yourself has to come before choosing the relationship.
“She has to just do what’s best for her and not what’s best for the marriage or their relationship.”
For Katie, peace now outweighs broken promises or vows.
“I’d rather be alone and happy than with somebody who constantly embarrasses me.”
To her, both Kyle Cooke and Tom Schwartz failed to recognize how their choices didn’t just make them “look stupid” but their partners too.
